1. Sundew Park
Located on Sundew Drive in Vista Hills, Sundew Park is an excellent spot to visit with your little one. Surrounded by mature trees and even a local community garden, your little one can explore the playground while you enjoy time spent outdoors. You can even make a day of it by packing a snack or a picnic for the park. Once playground time is over, the West-side Trails are just down the road for even more outdoor fun!
2. West-side Trails
Find solitude at West-side Trails, also known as the Geo-Time Trail! This hidden gem in Vista Hills is the largest woodland in Waterloo. These trails feature educational signage along the route that will teach you about biological organisms and when major catastrophic events took place on earth! You can also learn how to tell time with a sundial located on one of the paths.
Trails here vary from steep hills to wider trails with a more gradual incline. Here you are sure to see wetlands, rare plants and a variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled, some have even reported seeing fossils in the area!

3. Herrle’s Country Farm Market
Take a visit to Herrle’s Country Farm Market where you can purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, baked goods, homemade jams, honey and maple syrup. The market is open seasonally every year from early June until October 31st for you to enjoy. We especially recommend trying a freshly baked pie – they’re delicious!

4. Laurel Creek Reservoir + Look Out Tower
Located just a quick 5-minute drive from Vista Hills is Laurel Creek Conservation Area. Enjoy nature at its finest on one of the three loops of multi-use trails that travel through a mature forest and tall grassy meadows. Laurel Creek reservoir is a good place to enjoy a quiet paddle along the lake or a fun day at the beach. If you’re looking for an oasis in the middle of the city, Laurel Creek Conservation Area is the place for you. Make sure to check out the lookout tower while you’re there for a beautiful view of the local scenery!
