Dining Room

1. Brown is the new black!

Think warm chocolate browns, cozy caramels, and honey camel tones that were once popular in the 70s – but make it modern! These colours are rich and timeless and provide a calming effect for your space. You can easily add these colours to your décor with throw pillows and linens, or you can take it a step further by adding accent furniture in desert brown or camel colours to bring further warmth to your space! Take inspiration from this dining table in honey camel tone from one of our model homes on our Instagram page or the one above from our previous Brookstone model home.

Nature-inspired palette

2. Nature-inspired palette

This year’s nature palette is inspired by a Scandinavian concept called ‘friluftsliv’. Friluftsliv means bringing elements of the outdoors to your indoor spaces. Try inviting more natural light into your home by opting for sheer or light layered drapes, or pillow covers with flora and fauna motifs. You can also opt for more natural surfaces in decor and furniture like terracotta, marble, and stone.

Pull inspiration from this relaxation room featured on Apartment Therapy which icludes lots of natural textures and neutral tones. You can carry this theme into your home by adding more plants and natural light to your living room. This will also bring harmony and calm throughout your home and in turn, to yourself.

If you’re thinking of adding this style to your space and are looking for indoor plants, visit one of our local plant shops or nurseries in the KWC Region such as Belgian Nursery, Living Fresh or Gold Leaf Botanicals to support local!

Dual-purpose spaces

3. Dual-purpose spaces

If your floorplan doesn’t offer a multi-purpose room, there are many ways you can transform your space to be multi-functional. Think converting your basement into a gym, turning your backyard into an entertainment space, and so on!

Adding modular furniture will help you achieve this! Modular furniture offers a high degree of flexibility, allowing you to change things up whenever you please. You can find modular sofas and sectionals designed to be reconfigured, rearranged, and moved around at Schreiter’s!

4. Leather Upholstery

Leather upholstery is something to keep our eye on over the coming year. While it never really left, leather is still a hot trend for 2022. Adding leather pieces to your home is a perfect way to incorporate a certain softness and warmth. Leather helps offset cooler tones and metals throughout a home and gives a “lived-in” feeling. The aging of leather allows a piece to tell a story over time and ages beautifully with its owners. Adding leather pieces can be an investment, but it’s worth it!

Does your old leather furniture need a refresh? Furniture Medic in Kitchener offers professional services such as colour restoration, scratch repairs, and upholstery filling to make your leather piece look new again!

Bold colours & patterns

5. Bold colours & patterns

Homeowners are continuing to move away from neutral tones and are adding more pops of colour throughout their homes. Think wallpaper and DIY accent walls in bold hues, and coloured rugs, artwork, tiles, and cabinetry.

Add bold colours to your bedroom or living room with a DIY accent wall – check out some ideas from Apartment Therapy. You can also add colour through furniture such as an accent chair sofa! From cabinets to flooring and backsplashes, our extensive award-winning Design Studio has many options to choose from to incorporate bold colours throughout the home.
