Welcome to the fifth and final post of our Home for the Holidays Series! We hope you’ve taken the time to read our other blogs in the series: Community Events for Families, Shop Local Round-Up, Home Décor Tips and Activities at Home. In our final blog, we are highlighting our team’s favourite recipes… and they look delicious! We hope you enjoy making some of these treats at home for you and your family to enjoy!
If you see a recipe you would like to try, there is a link under each description for your convenience. If you plan on making more than one sweet treat, you can also take the opportunity to download our full recipe book. Enjoy!
Creative Designer, Jennifer, loves a holiday charcuterie board! They’re fast, easy and usually have something for everyone! You can add a variety of meats like prosciutto, salami and pepperettes, along with both hard and soft cheeses such as brie, goat cheese, gouda or gruyere. For extra taste, you can add spreads like fig or red chilli sauce, as well as pickled onions, olives and of course, your favourite crackers. Fill in the gaps on your board with grapes, dried fruits, nuts or even chocolate. Add a glass of wine and voila – it’s ready to serve!
Caramel Apple Dip
Candy + fruit makes for an extra delicious combo! Creative Designer, Jenna, makes a caramel apple dip famous among Activa staff! All you need is apples, cream cheese, brown sugar, caramel sauce and Skor bits to create this sweet treat – kid-friendly and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth!
Hot Chocolate Bombs
Hot chocolate bombs have been all the rage on social media this season. Our Design Studio Consultant, Sandy, loves to make these for her nieces, so she wanted to share them with you! All you need is chocolate chips, hot cocoa mix and any other optional add-ins such as mini marshmallows, sprinkles or toffee pieces. You can find hot chocolate bomb moulds on Amazon!
Sea Foam Salad
Activa team member, Sarah, has seafoam salad on the table every year on Christmas! As her Grandmother’s recipe passed down to her father and now to her, it is a must-have item on her holiday food spread. All you need is pears, lime Jell-O, cream cheese, milk and whipped topping!
Have you ever made a pie from scratch? If not, our Site Coordinator, Cat, can help! Her favourite thing about the holidays is the food, particularly the recipes that have been passed down through generations. She makes a pumpkin pie from scratch every year! Her recipe for the pie dough was her grandmother’s and the pumpkin pie recipe was her great grandmother’s. She has continued to pass these recipes down to her children, grandkids and now you!
Grandma’s Carrot Cake
Who doesn’t love a delicious carrot cake with cream cheese icing? Team member, Liz, says homemade Carrot Cake is a staple in her home. This recipe was passed down by her Grandma, whose recipe card has scratched out temperatures and notes – making it fun and challenging all at the same time. Liz managed to perfect her Grandmother’s recipe, so we could share it with all of you!
Whipped Shortbread Cookies
Shortbread is a classic biscuit always popular to make around the holidays! Director of Sales and Marketing, Kristie, bakes these each year for her family. You can even add a little something extra using sprinkles, icing or any other toppings you see fit!
Snowballs are for more than just throwing, they’re also for eating! Warranty Technician, Colin, loves baking and cooking so we feel privileged to share not one but two of his recipes with you! The first one is snowballs – delicious cocoa and vanilla flavoured balls rolled in coconut shreds – delicious!
Gingerbread cake, cream cheese frosting, powdered sugar with a cherry on top… need we say more? Colin’s second recipe is sure to please because this gingerbread roll looks extra sweet! Bake one for your family, friends or yourself (it’s just too good) and enjoy!
