Longer days and warmer temperatures this April make it the perfect time to get outside and explore all that Waterloo Region has to offer. Whether you’re planning a fun-filled Easter weekend, looking for scenic spring walks, or searching for exciting community events, there’s something for everyone this month. Here’s a few ways we recommend you make the most of April!

Best Walking Spots this Spring
After a long winter trapped indoors, it’s natural to want to get out there and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of Waterloo Region. However, even if you’re willing to brave a bit of rain, it can be difficult to find a place that is well-maintained and not covered in mud! Here’s a few of our favourite spots to take a walk in all of Waterloo Region’s seasons.
Huron Natural Area is home to more than 250 acres of protected forest and wetland with over 7km of trails to explore. It hosts plenty of trails that are easy to walk in soggy spring. Plus, its location in South Kitchener makes it a quick drive from our homes in Trussler West, Harvest Park, and the Erinbrook Towns!
The Iron Horse Trail forms the spine of Kitchener’s multi use trail corridor and runs for approximately 5 km between Kitchener and Waterloo.
Homer Watson Park is home to several well-maintained trails in Kitchener, offering a nice balance between pleasant views and low-difficulty hiking.
The Columbia Hills Loop is a popular trail of medium difficulty, well-liked by Waterloo locals. It’s also found less than five minutes from our Vista Hills community!
The Forest Heights Community Trail offers a roughly 5 km loop of well-paved or maintained paths. Perfect for walking the dog, biking, or going for a light hike.
And of course, the massive Walter Bean Grand River Trail has several stretches of it that are not too muddy this time of year. The Riverbend section, found near our Trailside Towns community, has been relatively mud-free this spring, according to locals!
