The moment you are handed the keys to your newly built home is when it’s time to put your personal touch on your space!

Personalizing your home can take many forms, whether it is the furniture you select or meaningful items and photos you decide to display. Making a house come alive is as individual as those who live there.

Our main level was designed for entertaining – it is an open concept layout with the kitchen and dining space flowing into the great room. When we were selecting furniture and decor for our main level, it was important to ensure there was a complementary colour scheme to help make the spaces feel connected. The downfall of a focused and consistent colour scheme is that it can feel cold, lacking the warmth personalization can provide. Luckily as a family, we have an abundance of professional photos and our new home gave me an opportunity to display them in a big way!

Most Pinned: Photo Wall

I decided to create a photo wall as a primary focus of our great room, a spot everyone who comes to our home will be able to see and enjoy. Photo walls are a good choice if you have a large wall you would like to fill that is in a high traffic area. With clean lines and bright white spaces on trend, photo walls provide an opportunity to input colour and creativity into a neutral area.

The great thing about photo walls – there are no rules! You can decide to display different sized frames, various colours with endless formatting options. It is really up to you and your personal preference. My go-to style includes clean lines and symmetrical formatting, but I like to add colour to our space through photos. As we add new photos to our family collection, I will continue to switch out the photos that are displayed on the wall.

Adding Flair: Soft Furnishings

Another great way to add colour into a neutral space is pillows and décor! In the transition seasons, I like to keep my pillows and décor neutral as well, but with the arrival of spring it is a perfect opportunity to add bright floral patterns and colours to your home. You can take the change of season to introduce new indoor plants to your space, an addition that will continue to add visual interest and warmth well beyond the spring season!

Whether it is the addition of bright spring colours, new blossoms or photos, the renewed energy of the spring season will surely create a refreshed feeling inside your home!
