Reports To: Operations Supervisor, Silver Maple Landscaping

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, Silver Maple Landscaping, the Lead Hand, Softscape Installation is an experienced landscaper working with minimal supervision. The position works as a member of the team and directs the activities of one or more team members at the job site.  The Lead Hand, Softscape Installation is able to operate a variety of equipment commonly used in landscape and has working knowledge of plant material identification, plant installation and able to create landscape / garden designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a working crew member to complete landscape installation projects such as the installation of garden beds, tree planting and lighting installation.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
  • Operates a variety of mechanical equipment. (i.e. skid steer/mini-excavator)
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the division, delegating authority and the responsibility to personnel and continually monitor their performance.
  • Completes the necessary paperwork including work orders, timesheets and material requisitions.
  • Provide ongoing support and on the job training for crew members about proper landscape install procedures.
  • Look at each property as a whole and identify areas requiring more attention
  • Plans and organizes the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Inputs all orders.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and other related events.
  • Briefs the supervisor and makes recommendations of job status, personnel issues or client concerns.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of all company owned/rented equipment including tools and machinery.
  • Ensures compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects and the Ontario Building Code.
  • Ensures compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures including health & safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including snow removal during the winter months. (On-call requirement)

Requirements

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • WHMIS, Working at Heights and tool/equipment training with valid record of training.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the landscape installation field
  • Previous experience leading a crew successfully
  • Knowledge of Botanical and Common names. (Latin included)
  • Extensive knowledge in landscape installation principles including industry best practices
  • Ability to read landscape blueprints and project specifications
  • Ability to own and operate hand/power tools.
