Job Title: Financial Accounting Manager

ROLE SUMMARY:
The Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the general ledgers of all enterprise corporations. The successful candidate will use their previous years of experience in a management role, combined with their accounting knowledge gained through the practical application of a professional accounting designation, to lead the department in ensuring the company’s business activities are accurately recorded and in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures and the Income Tax Act. This role, working closely with the Financial Controller, is responsible for meeting the enterprise’s accounting, tax and financial reporting objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and coach the General Ledger team
- Ensure the proper reconciliation of all data systems
- Review journal entries, reconciliations and reports for completeness and accuracy
- Ensure GL accounts are reconciled on a timely and consistent basis to provide accurate reporting
- Responsible for coordination and review of monthly and quarterly working papers
- Responsible for year-end working paper preparation and coordination with external auditors
- Review and file HST, corporate income tax returns, and other compliance filings
- Provide expanded and improved reporting on financial data, including analysis on the profitability of the various business activities
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, GAAP and the Income Tax Act
- Assist the Financial Controller with the daily leadership of the Accounting Department
- Participate in ad-hoc analyses and process improvement projects
- Provide accounting support services to other company departments
Requirements
- CPA designation
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role within an accounting department
- Proven ability to apply accounting and tax policy to practical experiences
- Excellent written, verbal and time management skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a team setting
- Above average ability to work on numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with a particularly strong aptitude in MS Excel
- Experience in a complex, vertically integrated corporate structure is a strong asset
- Experience in Microsoft Dynamics, and/or HB1 is an asset
