What is ‘Contemporary Design’?

Contemporary homes are bold, with a focus on clean lines and natural materials such as wood, metal, stone and glass. A key part of the design is large windows, which offer both style and functionality – and let more natural light in.

Did you know that all of Activa’s single detached homes feature triple-pane windows for maximum energy efficiency?

Activa’s contemporary designs are built on these ideas, bringing stunning contemporary designs to the market without requiring a custom builder or extensive design budget. Our homes feature a mix of stone and brick with wooden accents and highlight this contrast with black accents such as front and garage doors, window frames and lighting. Many feature pillars as a core design element, giving the house a distinctive look with a modern main entrance. Some floorplans even have second-story balconies, accentuated with glass railings, to extend living space outside.

Each of Activa’s single detached homes, including our contemporary homes, is Net Zero Ready and uses building science to create a healthier, more energy-efficient home for our families. The homes also feature standards like quartz countertops in the kitchen, hardwood floors, and oversized contemporary millwork.

Purchasing a Contemporary Home with Activa

A selection of contemporary homes is available on some of our most well-loved detached floorplans!* Choose between 30’, 36’, 40’ and 43′ homes with three or four bedrooms and 1- or 2-car garages. Once you choose your floorplan, you’ll be able to select one of our five exterior colour packages to be used for your home.

Contemporary Interior Finishes

We believe that your home should reflect who you are, so if your design style is modern or contemporary, each room should reflect that! When you visit the Design Studio, you’ll be able to select your finishes from our wide variety of options. That said, for a true contemporary interior, here are some key features you might consider!

  1. Stairs with a glass railing: maximizes sight lines and adds to the feeling of an open space
  2. Black interior window frames: architectural element that creates drama and a sense of modernity
  3. Wall-hung vanities & bathroom faucets: feels modern and open while also showing off your stunning floors!
  4. Dark walls: by carefully selecting the right wall and the right colour, you can add drama to the room and actually trick the eye into thinking the room is even bigger than it is!
  5. Dark interior doors and trim: statement-making finishes that add a modern touch to your home

Some other design finishes that fit a contemporary aesthetic are wood finishes, flat-doored cabinets, quartz counters that are all one colour or mimic concrete, geometric shapes like hexagon tiles, black plumbing fixtures and more!
